Region of Murcia at a glance

A flat in the centre of Murcia that stands empty from nine to seven, a huerta house in an outlying village with a plot and several ways in, a villa on a golf resort in the Campo de Cartagena whose owner lives in northern Europe, an apartment in La Manga or Santiago de la Ribera shut up from October to June: in the Region of Murcia a Segurma alarm is set up differently in each case, and its Alarm Receiving Centre alerts the National Police or the Guardia Civil depending on the municipality. Here we explain it comarca by comarca (district by district).

What happens in the Region of Murcia when your alarm goes off

In the Region of Murcia, public safety is handled by the National Police in the towns that have a police station (Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Yecla, Jumilla, Cieza, Águilas and Caravaca de la Cruz) and by the Guardia Civil everywhere else: Mazarrón, San Javier, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares, Torre-Pacheco, Totana, Alhama, Mula, Archena, Las Torres de Cotillas, Fuente Álamo, Puerto Lumbreras and all the rest. Segurma's Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) has on record, for every home, which of the two forces covers it; in Murcia and Cartagena the local police also receive alerts and patrol.

The sequence is always the same. A camera detector picks up movement in the living room with the system armed, or a magnetic sensor notices the patio sliding door being opened. The control panel sends the ARC the signal, a few images of the moment and the audio from the room. An operator checks them. If it's your mother-in-law dropping off some food, nothing happens; if there is someone who shouldn't be there, the alarm is confirmed as real and the ARC alerts the National Police or the Guardia Civil with those images. You get the notification in the app at that moment, whether you're in Murcia, Madrid or the United Kingdom, and you can watch the cameras live.

The alert is made by Segurma, an authorised security company entered in the National Register of Private Security under number 3082. It is an alert verified with images: for the Guardia Civil post in Torre-Pacheco or Mazarrón, which covers dozens of urbanisations, that is the difference between a suspicion and a fact.

Huerta houses without fibre and owners abroad

Many houses in the huerta (the irrigated market-garden belt around Murcia), in the outlying villages and in the countryside have no fibre broadband, and thousands of homes on the resorts and around the Mar Menor belong to owners who live outside Spain. The control panel has its own battery and communicates over the home's line and over 4G/5G: if one route fails, the other keeps the link with the ARC. The app works from any country.

Where Segurma installs in the Region of Murcia

Across the whole Region, from Yecla to Águilas and from Caravaca to La Manga. These are the comarcas (districts) and the type of home we usually find in each one.

Murcia city and its huerta

Flats in the Centro, Santa Eulalia, El Carmen, San Antolín, Vistalegre, La Flota, Juan Carlos I or Santiago y Zaraiche, with ground-floor and first-floor flats facing the street; and huerta houses with a plot in the outlying villages (El Palmar, Puente Tocinos, Cabezo de Torres, Beniaján, Algezares, La Alberca, Espinardo, Churra, Guadalupe, Sangonera, Torreagüera, Alquerías, Los Dolores), many with several ways in and nobody in sight. In a flat you protect the door, the reachable windows and the hallway; in a huerta house, every access and the plot.

Metropolitan area: Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Las Torres de Cotillas, Santomera, Beniel, Alguazas, Ceutí and Lorquí

Flats in the town centres, townhouses and villas on the Molina urbanisations (Altorreal, La Alcayna, El Chorrico, Los Conejos) and huerta houses. Molina and Alcantarilla have the National Police; the rest, the Guardia Civil.

Cartagena and its countryside

Flats in Cartagena (Centro, Ensanche, Santa Lucía, Los Dolores, Barrio Peral, La Concepción), houses and villas in the outlying districts (Pozo Estrecho, La Palma, El Algar, Canteras, Los Belones), and holiday homes in La Manga, Cabo de Palos, Mar de Cristal, Playa Honda, Los Urrutias, Islas Menores, Isla Plana and La Azohía. Cartagena has the National Police.

Mar Menor: San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera, San Pedro del Pinatar, Los Alcázares and Torre-Pacheco

Holiday apartments and bungalows all along the shore, urbanisations of European owners at Roda Golf, Mar Menor Golf, Hacienda Riquelme or Los Narejos, and country houses in Torre-Pacheco. The whole Mar Menor alerts the Guardia Civil.

Bajo Guadalentín and the coast: Mazarrón, Puerto de Mazarrón, Águilas, Totana, Alhama and Librilla

Camposol, Country Club and the urbanisations of Mazarrón and Águilas, with thousands of homes belonging to British residents and holiday-home owners; Condado de Alhama and Hacienda del Álamo; flats in Totana and Alhama and country houses in Sierra Espuña. Águilas has the National Police; the rest, the Guardia Civil.

Alto Guadalentín: Lorca, Puerto Lumbreras and inland Águilas

Flats in Lorca, houses in the neighbourhoods and outlying villages (La Hoya, Purias, Almendricos, Zarcilla de Ramos) and a great many country houses with a plot. Lorca has the National Police; Puerto Lumbreras, the Guardia Civil.

Vega del Segura and Valle de Ricote: Cieza, Archena, Abarán, Blanca, Ojós, Ricote and Calasparra

Flats in Cieza and Archena, village houses with a yard, huerta houses and holiday homes by the river and around the spas. Cieza has the National Police.

Altiplano and Noroeste: Yecla, Jumilla, Caravaca, Cehegín, Bullas, Mula and Moratalla

Flats in Yecla, Jumilla and Caravaca, village houses and country houses on vineyard and dry-farming estates, with several ways in and few neighbours in sight. Yecla, Jumilla and Caravaca have the National Police; Cehegín, Bullas, Mula and Moratalla, the Guardia Civil.

If your town or outlying village isn't listed, Segurma installs there too: the whole Region is inside the service area. In the free, no-obligation survey we confirm the lead time by postcode.

How burglars get into homes in Murcia and what stops them

Home burglaries almost always happen with the house empty, in minutes, through the easiest way in. In the Region, with so many huerta houses, so many resorts and so many Mar Menor apartments, that way in is rarely the front door.

Flat in Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca or Molina

The front door (old locks slipped with a card or bumped open, or forced on a landing with no neighbours), windows and terraces of ground-floor and first-floor flats reached from the street or from a shop below, and penthouses reached from the roof. A magnetic sensor on the door raises the alert at the first attempt; a camera detector in the hallway captures whoever comes in; the indoor siren makes an intruder in a block of flats leave.

Huerta house in an outlying village

Several ways in (front door, patio, garage, store, the huerta itself), a plot and often not a single neighbour in sight. It is the type of house with the most break-ins from the back in the whole Region. Sensors on every access, camera detectors at the point everyone has to pass and an outdoor detector on the plot. The control panel, with its battery and 4G/5G, keeps the link with the ARC even if the power goes off.

Villa on a resort or urbanisation: Altorreal, Camposol, Roda, Hacienda Riquelme, Condado de Alhama

The intruder gets onto the plot over the back wall, checks from the garden whether anyone is in and goes for the living-room sliding door, a ground-floor window or the garage. Sliding doors are the number one way in. The outdoor detector picks him up on the plot; the IP camera with audio in the Kit Tranquilidad Plus lets you see him from your phone; the ARC alerts the Guardia Civil while he is still outside. On resorts with security at the gate, this is the inner layer that's missing.

Apartment on the Mar Menor, La Manga or Mazarrón

The terrace sliding door on ground-floor and first-floor flats, and the front door in buildings that are half empty in winter. Magnetic sensor on the door and on the sliding door, camera detector in the living room and an IP camera to look in on the apartment from home.

When it happens

August in Murcia and Cartagena, when the city heads for the Mar Menor; winter in the coastal apartments and resorts, shut from October to May; long weekends in country houses; and summer weekends in city flats. With the alarm armed and connected, those days stop being any different.

Anti-squatter alarm in Murcia: resorts, huerta houses and inherited flats

The Region of Murcia is one of the parts of Spain where most people ask us about squatting, and the reason is the amount of housing that stands empty for months: villas on the resorts of the Campo de Cartagena, Mazarrón and Alhama owned by people who live in northern Europe, Mar Menor apartments out of season, inherited huerta houses in the outlying villages and inherited flats in Murcia, Cartagena or Lorca. These are exactly the homes where a squat takes weeks to be discovered.

If the entry is detected while it is happening, with images of someone forcing the sliding door, the National Police or the Guardia Civil can act on an offence in progress. If you find out when you arrive at Easter, what's left is a court case. The whole point of an anti-squatter alarm lies in that first minute.

What the system does in an empty house

  • The magnetic sensors on doors, windows and sliding doors raise the alert at the first attempt to open them, not once the intruder has already changed the lock.
  • Whoever comes in is recorded by the camera detector; the images reach the ARC, which checks them and alerts the police with them.
  • The warning sign and the siren stop the villa or house looking abandoned, which is the first thing anyone choosing a home to squat looks for.
  • With the IP camera in the Kit Tranquilidad Plus you can look in on the house from your phone, whether you're in Murcia, Madrid or Manchester.

The legal framework, in short

If the house is your dwelling, even a second home you actually use, entering it is breaking into a dwelling (allanamiento de morada); if the property is nobody's dwelling, it is usurpation (usurpación). Since April 2025 both offences go through the fast-track procedure, and even so the practical difference does not go away: an entry detected and verified as it happens can be stopped on the spot, whereas a completed squat is settled in court. For a squatting problem that already exists you need a lawyer; this page is no substitute for their advice.

More detail, with the full protocol, on the Segurma anti-squatter alarm page.

Holiday homes on the Mar Menor, La Manga, Mazarrón and Águilas

Santiago de la Ribera, Los Alcázares, Los Narejos, San Pedro, Lo Pagán, La Manga, Cabo de Palos, Mar de Cristal, Puerto de Mazarrón, Bolnuevo, Águilas, Calabardina: the Murcian coast is the holiday home of half the Region and of plenty of people from Madrid and inland Spain, with homes that open in summer and close from September to June, in buildings and urbanisations where hardly anyone lives in January.

What a house like that needs is not a siren, which nobody hears on an empty urbanisation in February, but someone to check what is going on and alert the Guardia Civil, and the ability to look in on the house yourself from your phone. The Kit Tranquilidad covers the first; the Kit Tranquilidad Plus adds the IP camera with audio for the second. In bungalows and villas, the sensors on the sliding doors and the outdoor detector raise the alert before anyone touches the house.

The system is wireless and needs no building work, so there is no need to ask the residents' association for permission or to touch the house. It communicates over 4G/5G as well as the home's line, so you don't need to sign up for fibre at the holiday home. If the owner would rather deal with us in English, tell us at the survey.

Everything that changes when the house sits empty for months: alarm for holiday homes.

Which kit for each home in the Region

The final kit is decided at the survey; these are the combinations that come up most often in Murcia. Tap your type of home to see which kit it needs and what it includes.

Typical situations in the Region of Murcia

Three cases that keep coming up in survey calls from the Region, told in general terms so you can see whether yours looks similar.

The parents' huerta house in Beniaján, Alquerías or El Palmar

The children live in Murcia and the house is opened up at weekends. A plot, several ways in, nobody in sight. Sensors on every access, outdoor detector, camera detector at the point everyone has to pass and Kit Plus to look in on it from your phone; the ARC alerts the National Police with the images.

The villa in Camposol or Hacienda Riquelme belonging to a British owner

Shut for six months a year, with a garden and sliding doors. Outdoor detector, sensors on every sliding door and door, IP camera to look in on it from their own country; the ARC checks every alert and calls the Guardia Civil with the images.

The apartment in Santiago de la Ribera or La Manga belonging to a family from Murcia or Madrid

Opened in July; the rest of the year, a half-empty building. Sensor on the door and the sliding door, camera detector in the living room, Kit Plus to look in on it from home. No fibre: the control panel communicates over 4G/5G.

Common mistakes when protecting a home in Murcia

The same slips come up again and again in survey calls from the Region. These are the ones we see most.

  • Protecting only the front door of a huerta house. Patio, garage, store, the huerta: the intruder picks the way in that nobody sees. A sensor on each one and an outdoor detector on the plot.
  • Relying on the resort gatehouse. In Altorreal, Roda Golf, Hacienda Riquelme, Condado de Alhama or La Manga Club the security at the entrance checks the cars; it doesn't see whoever climbs the back wall of your plot. The connected alarm is the inner layer.
  • Forgetting the sliding doors. In the bungalows and villas on the coast and on the resorts, the living-room sliding door is the number one way in. A magnetic sensor on every one.
  • Leaving the country house with nothing because "there's no internet". The control panel communicates over 4G/5G and has a battery: in the Lorca countryside, the Altiplano or the Noroeste it works without fibre and rides out power cuts.
  • A standalone camera instead of an ARC. It shows you the burglary after the event from your own country; nobody checks it or calls the police. What counts is an operator looking at the images at the time and alerting the police with them.
  • Waiting until Easter to see how the apartment is. A closed-up home with no warning sign and no alarm is the perfect candidate for a squat which, by the time you discover it, is already a matter for the courts.

What works

Covering the real ways into your home (sliding doors and patio included), having the alarm connected to an ARC that verifies before alerting, the indoor siren so the intruder leaves, and the app so you know straight away from any country. In a Region with so many huerta houses, so many resorts and so many coastal apartments, that combination is what stops a burglary or a squat going all the way.

Common questions

Questions about the alarm in the Region of Murcia

Which police force does the alarm alert in Murcia?

The National Police in Murcia, Cartagena, Lorca, Molina de Segura, Alcantarilla, Yecla, Jumilla, Cieza, Águilas and Caravaca, which have a police station, and the Guardia Civil in the other municipalities (Mazarrón, San Javier, San Pedro, Los Alcázares, Torre-Pacheco, Totana, Alhama, Mula and so on). The ARC has it on record for your address and alerts them after checking with video and audio that the intrusion is real. You get the notification in the app at the same time.

How much does the Segurma alarm cost in Murcia or Cartagena?

For the first 12 months, €24.90 a month with VAT, equipment and installation included. From month 13, €43.90 a month for the Kit Tranquilidad and €49.90 a month for the Kit Tranquilidad Plus. The promotion ends on 31 October. It is the same price across Spain; anything added to the kit is quoted at the survey.

I have a huerta house in an outlying village with no fibre. Can I have the alarm?

Yes. The control panel has a built-in 4G/5G line and its own battery, so it works without fibre and stays connected if the power goes off. In a huerta house the survey places sensors on every access (front door, patio, garage, store) and an outdoor detector on the plot; the ARC checks every alert and calls the National Police or the Guardia Civil with the images.

I live in the UK and have a villa in Camposol. Can I manage it remotely?

Yes. The survey is done by phone, the installation is arranged with whoever holds the keys and the app works from any country. The ARC checks every alert and calls the Guardia Civil in Mazarrón with the images; you get the notification at the same time. If you'd rather deal with us in English, tell us when you ask for the survey.

Does it work as an anti-squatter alarm in a closed-up Mar Menor apartment?

It works to detect the entry at the moment it happens, which is when the Guardia Civil can act on an offence in progress. Sensors on the door and the sliding door, camera detector in the living room, warning sign and an IP camera to look in from home; the ARC verifies the images before alerting. A squat discovered weeks later is already a matter for the courts; the alarm is there so you never get to that point.

My urbanisation in Altorreal has security. Do I need an alarm?

Security covers the entrance and the communal areas, not the inside of your plot or your house. The connected alarm covers exactly that: if someone climbs the wall or forces a sliding door, the ARC sees it, checks it and alerts the National Police in Molina, as well as the urbanisation's security service if you set that up. The two layers complement each other.

Does Segurma install in the Noroeste, the Altiplano and the Lorca countryside?

Yes. The whole Region of Murcia is inside Segurma's service area. In country houses and remote outlying villages the lead time can vary according to the area's schedule; it is confirmed at the survey together with the proposed kit. The control panel communicates over 4G/5G where the landline is poor.

Does Segurma have a branch in Murcia?

Segurma is a national security company based in Loiu (Bizkaia), with its own Alarm Receiving Centre and technicians who install across the whole Region of Murcia. Segurma Alarmas, which runs this website, sells its systems: we advise you, do the survey and handle the sign-up; the service and the contract are Segurma's.
