Segurma alarms in Girona
An alarm for your flat, your house on an urbanisation or your Costa Brava villa.
Girona at a glance
Girona is, by a long way, the province where most people ask us about squatting: whole urbanisations in La Selva and the Empordà with houses that stand empty for months, Costa Brava villas owned by French, Belgian or Barcelona families, apartments in Empuriabrava, Roses or Platja d'Aro shut up from October to June, and masias (Catalan farmhouses) in the Garrotxa and the Ripollès. The Segurma alarm covers every case, and in Catalonia the alert goes to the Mossos d'Esquadra. Here we explain it comarca by comarca (district by district).

What happens in Girona when your alarm goes off
In Catalonia, public safety is the responsibility of the Mossos d'Esquadra. When Segurma's Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) confirms an intrusion in a home in the province of Girona, the alert goes to the Mossos station covering that municipality (Girona, Figueres, Blanes, Lloret, Olot, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Palafrugell, La Bisbal, Roses, Banyoles, Santa Coloma de Farners, Ripoll or Puigcerdà), with the images of the moment. In Girona, Figueres, Blanes or Lloret the local police also patrol and work alongside them.
The sequence is always the same. A camera detector picks up movement in the living room with the system armed, or a magnetic sensor notices the garden sliding door being opened. The control panel sends the ARC the signal, a few images of the moment and the audio from the room. An operator checks them. If it's the person who looks after the house and they've come in with their tag, nothing happens; if there is someone who shouldn't be there, the alarm is confirmed as real and the ARC alerts the Mossos with those images. You get the notification in the app at that moment, whether you're in Girona, Barcelona or Lyon, and you can watch the cameras live.
The alert is made by Segurma, an authorised security company entered in the National Register of Private Security under number 3082. It is an alert verified with images: for the Mossos station in Santa Coloma de Farners, which covers dozens of urbanisations full of closed-up houses, that is the difference between a suspicion and a fact.
Urbanisations without fibre, the tramontana and owners in France
Many houses on the urbanisations of La Selva and the Empordà have no fibre broadband, the tramontana wind cuts the power in the Alt Empordà, and thousands of homes belong to owners who live in France, Belgium or Barcelona. The control panel has its own battery and communicates over the home's line and over 4G/5G: if one route fails, the other keeps the link with the ARC. The app works from any country.
Where Segurma installs in Girona province
Across the whole province, from Portbou to Blanes and from the coast to the Cerdanya. These are the comarcas (districts) and the type of home we usually find in each one.
Girona and the Gironès: Girona, Salt, Sarrià de Ter, Celrà, Fornells, Vilablareix, Quart, Llagostera and Cassà
Flats in the Barri Vell, l'Eixample, Sant Narcís, Santa Eugènia, Montilivi, Palau, Pont Major and Taialà, and in Salt; villas and townhouses in Palau, Montjuïc, Vilablareix, Fornells and the urbanisations of Llagostera and Cassà. In a flat you protect the door, reachable balconies and windows and the hallway; in a villa, the perimeter.
La Selva: Blanes, Lloret de Mar, Tossa, Vidreres, Maçanet, Sils, Caldes de Malavella, Santa Coloma de Farners, Riudarenes, Arbúcies and Sant Hilari
The comarca with more holiday-home urbanisations than any other in Catalonia: hundreds of houses in Lloret Blau, Aiguaviva Park, Maçanet Residencial, Terrafortuna, Vidreres, Sils or Caldes, many of them closed during the week or for months on end. It is where squatting worries people most: outdoor detector, sensors on every access and an IP camera.
Baix Empordà: Palafrugell (Calella, Llafranc, Tamariu), Palamós, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Castell-Platja d'Aro, S'Agaró, Calonge, Begur, Pals, Torroella de Montgrí (L'Estartit), La Bisbal and Santa Cristina d'Aro
Costa Brava villas and apartments, many owned by people from Barcelona, France and Belgium and shut from October to June; village houses inland; hillside urbanisations in Calonge, Santa Cristina and Castell d'Aro.
Alt Empordà: Figueres, Roses, Castelló d'Empúries (Empuriabrava), Cadaqués, L'Escala, Sant Pere Pescador, Llançà, El Port de la Selva, Vilafant and La Jonquera
Flats in Figueres, villas with a mooring in Empuriabrava and apartments in Roses and L'Escala (French, German and Belgian owners), village houses on the plain and masias. Tramontana country, with houses closed up out of season.
Garrotxa and Pla de l'Estany: Olot, Besalú, Sant Joan les Fonts, Les Preses, Banyoles, Porqueres and Cornellà del Terri
Flats in Olot and Banyoles, villas by the lake, and masias and village houses in the Garrotxa, many of them holiday homes or holiday lets.
Ripollès and Cerdanya: Ripoll, Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Camprodon, Ribes de Freser, Puigcerdà, Alp, La Molina, Llívia and Bellver (Lleida)
Mountain apartments and houses belonging to Barcelona families, opened up in winter and in summer, and stone village houses. Snow cuts the power and fibre doesn't reach everywhere.
Inland La Selva and the Montseny: Arbúcies, Sant Hilari Sacalm, Breda, Hostalric, Riells i Viabrea, Anglès and Amer
Holiday-home urbanisations in the Montseny (Riells, Breda, Sant Hilari) and village houses, on streets with hardly anyone passing during the week.
La Selva coast and the south: Blanes, Lloret and Tossa
Beach apartments in Blanes, Lloret and Tossa, closed up out of season, and villas in Cala Canyelles, Santa Cristina and the hillside urbanisations of Lloret.
If you can't see your town, it doesn't matter: the whole province is inside the service area and in the free, no-obligation survey we confirm the lead time by postcode.
How burglars get into homes in Girona and what stops them
Home burglaries almost always happen with the house empty, in minutes, through the easiest way in. In Girona that way in is rarely the front door: it's the garden sliding door, the ground-floor window or the wall around the plot.
Flat in Girona, Figueres, Blanes, Lloret or Olot
The front door (old locks slipped with a card or bumped open, or forced on a landing with no neighbours), balconies and windows of ground-floor and first-floor flats reached from the street or from a shop below, and penthouse terraces reached from the roof. A magnetic sensor on the door raises the alert at the first attempt; a camera detector in the hallway captures whoever comes in; the indoor siren makes an intruder in a block of flats leave.
House on an urbanisation in La Selva, the Empordà or the Montseny
Streets with nobody passing, large plots, closed-up houses all around: the intruder comes over the back wall, checks whether anyone is in and goes for the living-room sliding door or a ground-floor window. Covering every access with a sensor, placing an outdoor detector on the plot and having an IP camera to look in on the house from your phone is what turns that entry into an alert to the Mossos while it is happening.
Villa on the Costa Brava or in Empuriabrava
The intruder arrives from the sea, from the canal or from the hillside, checks from the garden whether anyone is in and goes for the living-room sliding doors. The outdoor detector picks him up on the plot; the IP camera with audio in the Kit Tranquilidad Plus lets you see him from your phone; the ARC alerts the Mossos while he is still outside. On urbanisations with security at the gate, this is the inner layer that's missing.
Masia or village house in the Garrotxa, the Ripollès or the inland Empordà
Several ways in (front door, threshing yard, farmyard, hay barn), and often not a single neighbour in sight. Sensors on every access, camera detectors at the point everyone has to pass and an outdoor detector. The control panel, with its battery and 4G/5G, keeps the link with the ARC even if the power goes off.
When it happens
August in Girona, Figueres and Olot, when the city heads for the coast; winter on the urbanisations and in the Costa Brava apartments, shut from October to June; long weekends in mountain houses; and midweek on the weekend urbanisations. With the alarm armed and connected, those days stop being any different.
Anti-squatter alarm in Girona: urbanisations, closed-up villas and inherited flats
Girona is the province where squatting worries more owners than anywhere else, and the reason is the amount of housing that stands empty for months: houses on the urbanisations of La Selva, the Empordà and the Montseny, Costa Brava and Empuriabrava villas owned by people who live in France or Barcelona, beach apartments out of season and inherited flats in Girona, Figueres, Salt or Blanes. These are exactly the homes where a squat takes weeks to be discovered.
If the entry is detected while it is happening, with images of someone forcing the sliding door, the Mossos can act on an offence in progress. If you find out when you arrive at Easter, what's left is a court case. The whole point of an anti-squatter alarm lies in that first minute.
What the system does in an empty house
- The magnetic sensors on doors, windows and sliding doors raise the alert at the first attempt to open them, not once the intruder has already changed the lock.
- The camera detector takes images of whoever comes in and sends them to the ARC, which verifies them and alerts the Mossos with those images.
- The warning sign and the siren stop the house looking abandoned, which is the first thing anyone choosing a home to squat looks for.
- With the IP camera in the Kit Tranquilidad Plus you can look in on the house from your phone, whether you're in Girona, Barcelona or France.
The legal framework, in short
Entering a home that is someone's dwelling (including a second home that is in use) is breaking into a dwelling (allanamiento de morada); entering a property that is not, is usurpation (usurpación). Since April 2025 both offences are dealt with through the fast-track procedure, but the practical difference remains: an intrusion detected and verified as it happens allows action on the spot; a completed squat is resolved in court. If you already have a squatting problem, consult a lawyer; this page is no substitute for that advice.

Holiday homes on the Costa Brava, in La Selva and in the mountains
Empuriabrava, Roses, L'Escala, L'Estartit, Begur, Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc, Palamós, Platja d'Aro, S'Agaró, Sant Feliu, Tossa, Lloret, Blanes, and also the urbanisations of Vidreres, Maçanet, Caldes or Riells and the apartments of La Molina, Alp and Puigcerdà: Girona is the holiday home of half of Barcelona and of thousands of French and Belgian families, with homes that open in summer and on long weekends and close for the rest of the year.
What a house like that needs is not a siren, which nobody hears on an empty urbanisation in February, but someone to check what is going on and alert the Mossos, and the ability to look in on the house yourself from your phone. The Kit Tranquilidad covers the first; the Kit Tranquilidad Plus adds the IP camera with audio for the second. In houses with a garden, the sensors on the sliding doors and the outdoor detector raise the alert before anyone touches the house.
The system is wireless and needs no building work, so there is no need to ask the residents' association for permission or to touch a masia. It communicates over 4G/5G as well as the home's line, so you don't need to sign up for fibre at the holiday home. If the owner would rather deal with us in French or English, tell us at the survey.
Everything that changes when the house sits empty for months: alarm for holiday homes.

Shop or business in Girona or on the coast
For a shop, a restaurant, a pharmacy, an office or a warehouse the set-up changes (IP camera with audio, panic button, arming schedules) and VAT is not included in the monthly fee. It is explained on alarms for businesses.
Typical situations in Girona
Three cases that come up regularly in survey calls from the province, explained without specific details so you can recognise your own.
The house on an urbanisation in Vidreres, Maçanet or Caldes that the family uses at weekends
Streets with nobody passing during the week, closed-up houses all around, a plot with sliding doors. Outdoor detector, sensors on every access, camera detector in the living room and an IP camera to look in on it from Barcelona; the ARC checks every alert and calls the Mossos with the images.
The villa in Empuriabrava or Begur belonging to a French or Belgian owner
Shut for six or eight months a year, with a garden, a mooring or a pool. Outdoor detector, sensors on every sliding door, IP camera to look in on it from their own country; the ARC verifies and alerts the Mossos.
The inherited flat in Salt, Figueres or Blanes waiting to be sold
Empty for months. Sensors on the door and reachable windows, camera detector in the entrance hall and a warning sign: if someone gets in, the ARC alerts the Mossos while it is happening, not when the family goes round to show the flat.
Common mistakes when protecting a home in Girona
The same slips come up again and again in survey calls from the province. These are the ones we see most.
- Leaving the house on the urbanisation without an alarm because "nobody lives there". That is exactly why. In La Selva, the Empordà or the Montseny an empty house with no warning sign and no connected system is the first thing anyone looking for a home to squat notices. The entry has to be detected in the first minute.
- Forgetting the sliding doors. In villas and houses on urbanisations the living-room sliding door is the number one way in. A magnetic sensor on every one.
- Leaving the house with nothing because "there's no fibre". The control panel communicates over 4G/5G and has a battery: on the urbanisations of La Selva, in the Garrotxa or the Cerdanya it works without fibre and rides out the power cuts from the tramontana and the snow.
- A standalone camera instead of an ARC. It shows you the burglary after the event from France; nobody checks it or calls the Mossos. What counts is an operator looking at the images at the time and alerting them with those images.
- Relying on the urbanisation gatehouse. In S'Agaró, Mas Nou, Empuriabrava or Santa Cristina the security at the entrance checks the cars; it doesn't see whoever arrives over the hillside or along the canal. The connected alarm is the inner layer.
- Not mentioning the pet. A detector placed without taking it into account goes off with the dog and ends up switched off; at the survey the position is chosen so it doesn't trigger it.
What works
Covering the real ways into your home (sliding doors and plot included), having the alarm connected to an ARC that verifies before alerting the Mossos, the indoor siren so the intruder leaves, and the app so you know straight away from any country. In the province with more closed-up homes than any other in Catalonia, that combination is what stops a burglary or a squat going all the way.

Questions about the alarm in Girona
The Mossos d'Esquadra, who are responsible for public safety in Catalonia. Segurma's Alarm Receiving Centre first checks with video and audio that the intrusion is real and then alerts the station covering your municipality, with the images. The local police help within their remit. You get the notification in the app at the same moment.
€24.90 a month for the first 12 months, with VAT, equipment and installation included. After that, €43.90 a month for the Kit Tranquilidad or €49.90 a month for the Kit Tranquilidad Plus. The promotion ends on 31 October. There is no surcharge by province; extra elements are quoted at the survey.
Kit Tranquilidad Plus with outdoor detector: sensors on every access and sliding door, camera detector in the living room, detector on the plot and an IP camera to look in on the house from your phone. The ARC checks every alert and calls the Mossos if there is someone inside. The control panel has a battery and 4G/5G, so it doesn't depend on the power or on fibre.
Yes. The survey is done by phone, the installation is arranged with whoever holds the keys and the app works from any country. The ARC checks every alert and calls the Mossos with the images; you get the notification at the same time. If you'd rather deal with us in French or English, tell us when you ask for the survey.
It works to detect the entry at the moment it happens, which is when the Mossos can act on an offence in progress. The sensors raise the alert at the first attempt to open anything, the camera detector takes images of whoever comes in and the ARC verifies them before alerting. A squat discovered weeks later is already a matter for the courts; the alarm is there so you never get to that point.
It is one of the homes where it makes most sense: out of season nobody is going to notice a break-in. With the alarm connected, any opening or movement reaches the ARC, which checks it and alerts the Mossos if there is someone inside. With the Kit Tranquilidad Plus you can look in on the apartment from Barcelona; the control panel has a battery and 4G/5G for the snow.
Yes. The whole province of Girona is inside Segurma's service area. In masias and mountain villages the lead time can vary according to the area's schedule; it is confirmed at the survey together with the proposed kit. The control panel communicates over 4G/5G where the landline is poor.
Segurma is a national security company based in Loiu (Bizkaia), with its own Alarm Receiving Centre and technicians who install across the whole province of Girona. Segurma Alarmas, which runs this website, sells its systems: we advise you, do the survey and handle the sign-up; the service and the contract are Segurma's.
Nearby provinces
If your home is in a neighbouring province, it has its own page with the police protocol and the areas covered there. The provinces with an English page are listed under Segurma alarms by province; the rest are in Spanish.
